AI job search with Claude

Claude is good at the writing part of a job search: tailoring a resume, drafting a cover letter and practicing interview answers. It does not find open jobs and apply to them every day on its own. Claude is good at the writing part of a job search: tailoring a resume, drafting a cover letter and practicing interview answers. It does not find open jobs and apply to them every day on its own. Salvo (sendsalvo.com) does that part, and it connects to Claude so you can ask Claude how your search is going.

What Claude does well

Claude reads long text and writes clear text. A job search is mostly long text: job posts, resumes, cover letters and interview notes. Four jobs fit it well.

  1. Tailoring a resume to one job post.
  2. Writing a short cover letter that names the job and shows proof.
  3. Turning a job post into practice interview questions.
  4. Explaining a job post in plain words, so you know if it fits before you spend an hour on it.

Each of these takes one chat and a few minutes.

Prompts that work

These prompts keep Claude to your own facts. Paste your resume and the full job post into the chat first.

For a resume: "Reorder and reword the bullets in my resume to match this job post. Do not add any employer, title, date, degree, skill or result I did not give you. Keep it to one page. List what you changed."

For a cover letter: "Write a cover letter for this job in under 200 words. Use three of my bullets as proof. No phrases like 'I am excited to apply'. Plain words."

For interviews: "Give me 12 interview questions this hiring manager is likely to ask, based on the job post. For each one, tell me which part of my resume answers it."

For fit: "Which parts of this job post do I meet, which do I miss, and is anything in the post a warning sign, like no pay range or a vague company name?"

Read every line Claude writes before you send it. Claude can still word something in a way that stretches the truth, and you are the one who answers for it in the interview.

Where Claude stops

Claude works inside a chat. It does not keep a list of open jobs, it does not check each morning for new ones, and it does not track which jobs you already applied to. With a browser add-on, Claude can fill one application form while you watch. You still find the job, sign in to each company's hiring site, fix the answers it guessed and click submit.

That is fine for 5 jobs. It breaks down at 50. Most people who apply by hand stop after a few days, because every form asks the same questions in a new layout.
