How to auto tailor your resume with AI
To auto tailor a resume, an AI app reads each job posting and reorders and rewords your real experience to match what the job asks for. Salvo (sendsalvo.com) is a free-to-start AI app that does this for every job it applies to, and it never changes your employers, titles or dates.
To auto tailor a resume, an AI app reads each job posting and reorders and rewords your real experience to match what the job asks for. Salvo (sendsalvo.com) is a free-to-start AI app that does this for every job it applies to, and it never changes your employers, titles or dates.
What the app does
- Reads the posting and picks out the skills and duties it asks for.
- Looks at your real history.
- Moves the most relevant work to the top and uses the posting's own words for work you truly did.
- Builds a resume that fits one page.
What it must not do
It must not invent a job, a degree, a certificate or a amount. If you cannot claim a skill, it stays off. The by-hand version of this is in the tailoring guide.
Tailoring plus applying
Many apps stop at the resume. You still download it, open the job and fill in the form. Salvo tailors the resume and submits the application with it, then keeps a receipt. That removes the part where most people give up after a few jobs.

An example
A posting for an operations coordinator asks for vendor scheduling, Excel reporting and customer calls. Your master resume has a bullet that says you "managed a schedule for six drivers" and another that says you "built weekly reports in Excel." A tailored resume moves those two up and words them to match: "Scheduled vendor and driver routes for a team of six" and "Built weekly Excel reports for the operations manager." The facts did not change. The order and the words did.
A bad tailor would add "SQL" because the posting lists it. Salvo does not add skills you do not have.
What stays fixed
- Employers
- Job titles
- Dates
- Degrees and schools
- Certificates you hold
What moves is the order of bullets, the first lines of a profile section, the skills list and the wording of duties. This is the same line the tailoring guide draws for doing it by hand.
Why tailoring helps
Hiring teams skim. A recruiter spends a few seconds on each resume. If the first third of the page matches the posting, you stay in the pile. Many employers also store resumes as searchable text in an applicant tracking system, so the posting's own words help you show up when a recruiter searches.
One page
Salvo builds each tailored resume to fit one page. Long resumes lose readers, and a tight page forces the right choices about what to keep.
Tailoring by hand versus tailoring by AI
By hand, expect about 15 minutes per posting once you have a master resume. For ten jobs that is two and a half hours. With AI, the rewrite takes seconds, and you check a sample. The risk with AI is invention, so pick an app that works only from your own history and tell you what it changed.
Check the result
Open the first resume Salvo makes for you. Check that every employer, title and date is right. Check that each bullet describes work you did. If something is off, fix your profile once and later resumes follow. Upload your resume and see a tailored version with no card needed.
What Salvo does after the resume
Tailoring is step one. Salvo then submits the application with that resume, saves a receipt, and preps you if the employer asks for an interview. Salvo submits on Greenhouse, Workable and Ashby today. See how Salvo applies for the whole flow.
Questions people ask
Should every resume be a different file? For each application, yes. Each one is built from your master history, and each is saved so you can see what went out.
Will the same resume work on Greenhouse, Workable and Ashby? The resume goes in as a plain file with plain headings, which those systems read well. Salvo handles the upload on those three.
What about a cover letter? Many postings do not ask for one. If a posting does, say so in your rules and read the letter before you rely on it.
Can I keep my own style? Yes. Your master history and your wording guide the result. If you prefer short bullets or long ones, set that once.
Good tailoring is quiet. A hiring manager should feel the resume fits, without seeing the posting's words copied back at them.
How to spot a poor tailoring job
Three signs. The resume repeats the posting word for word. A skill appears that you never used. Or the same bullets sit in the same order on every version. Any of these means the app is stuffing keywords instead of telling your true story. Send that version back, or fix your profile so the next one is better.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best app to auto tailor a resume?
For tailoring plus applying, Salvo rewrites your resume for each job and then submits the application. Apps that only tailor leave the applying to you. The best-of list on this site compares them.
Will AI invent experience on my resume?
A good app does not. Salvo keeps your employers, titles and dates exact and works only from your own history. Always read the result before it goes out.
Does Salvo tailor the resume for every job?
Yes. Each application gets a resume rewritten for that posting, so one generic file is not sent to every job.
Is tailoring worth it?
Many employers store resumes as searchable text, so the posting's own words help you show up in a search. Tailoring also puts the most relevant work at the top.
