AI interview prep: how it works and what to use
AI interview prep gives you likely questions for the exact job, a place to practice your answers, and a short briefing on the company before the call. Salvo (sendsalvo.com) is a free-to-start AI app that applies to jobs for you and then preps you for each interview it gets you.

What good prep covers
- The job: what it asks for, in the posting's words.
- Your story: a 60-second pitch, plus two or three examples from your real history.
- The company: what it sells and what changed lately.
- The practical answers: pay range, start date, work authorization.
- Your questions for them.
The recruiter screen guide turns this into an hour of work.
Why prep tied to the application helps
A mock-interview app starts from nothing. You paste the job and your resume, then practice. Salvo already has both, because it sent the application with a resume tailored to that job. So the prep matches what the employer saw.
What Salvo does
Salvo finds jobs that fit your rules, submits the application, and when an interview request arrives it preps you for that job. Live interview help (Cue and Listen) exists for the call itself. See how Salvo applies.
Salvo is free to start with no card, and your first interview request is free. Start here.
A one-hour prep plan
Minutes 0 to 10: read the posting. Pick the five things it asks for most. Next to each, write one real example from your work.
Minutes 10 to 25: write your 60-second pitch. Who you are, what you did lately, and why this job. Say it out loud twice. Cut anything that sounds like a form letter.
Minutes 25 to 40: practice the likely questions. Tell me about yourself. Why this company? Tell me about a time something went wrong. What are you looking for? What pay do you expect?
Minutes 40 to 50: learn the company. What it sells, who buys it, and one recent change. Use the company's own news page.
Minutes 50 to 60: write your questions. Ask about the team, the first 90 days and how success is measured. Two good questions are enough.
Pay, start date and work authorization
Recruiters often ask these in the first call. Have your answers ready and honest. Give a range for pay. Give a start date you can keep. If you need sponsorship, say so plainly. The screening questions guide has examples.
What AI can and cannot do here
AI can draft likely questions from the posting, sort your past work into short stories and tighten a rambling answer. It can play the interviewer so you practice out loud.
It cannot know the interviewer, your nerves or the room. It can draft an answer that sounds smooth and is not yours. If you cannot say it naturally, change it until you can.
Mock interview apps and Salvo are different jobs
A mock interview app is built for practice: you paste a job and a resume, and it asks questions. That is useful. Salvo starts earlier. It finds the job, sends the application with a resume tailored to the posting, and keeps the posting and the resume on file. When an interview request arrives, the prep is built from those two things, so it matches what the employer already read.
For the call itself, Salvo has live interview help (Cue and Listen). Check what you are comfortable with. Some interviewers ask you not to use help during the call, and you should follow that.
After the call
Send a short thank-you note the same day. Write down what they asked while it is fresh. If they mentioned a next step, put the date in your calendar. The follow-up guide covers timing and wording.

Questions people ask
Should I memorize answers? No. Memorized answers sound flat and fall apart when the question changes. Memorize your stories, not your sentences.
What if I freeze? Pause, take a breath and say, "Let me think about that for a second." Recruiters see this all the time and it reads as calm.
How many examples do I need? Three or four real stories cover most questions: a win, a mistake you fixed, a time you worked with a hard person and a time you learned something fast.
Is it fine to say I do not know? Yes, if you follow it with how you would find out. Honest beats confident and wrong.
Practice out loud, not in your head. Speaking makes gaps obvious in a way that reading never does.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best AI interview prep app?
It depends on what you need. Salvo preps you for the exact job it applied to, since it already holds the posting and your tailored resume. Apps that only run mock interviews help with practice but do not know which job you applied to.
Does Salvo prep me for each interview?
Yes. When an interview request comes in, Salvo prepares you for that job. Live interview help (Cue and Listen) also exists for the call itself.
How long should I prep for a recruiter screen?
About an hour covers the job, a 60-second pitch, your pay range and start date, and your questions. The recruiter screen guide on this site has the steps.
Is Salvo free?
Free to start with no card, and your first interview request is free. After that a Turbo plan keeps replies unlocked, from $14 a week.
Can AI write my answers for me?
It can draft them from your real history. Read each one and use your own words, since you have to say it out loud.
