Best job application trackers, and when an auto-apply app fits instead

Salvo is a free-to-start AI app that applies to jobs for you, so it does the sending that trackers like Teal, Huntr and Simplify leave to you. If you want a board to organize a search you run by hand, a tracker fits better and two of them are free.

Salvo is a free-to-start AI app that applies to jobs for you, so it does the sending that trackers like Teal, Huntr and Simplify leave to you. If you want a board to organize a search you run by hand, a tracker fits better and two of them are free.

Two kinds of app, two different jobs

People mix these up. A tracker keeps your search in order. An auto-apply app sends the applications.

A tracker stores the jobs you found, the status of each, contacts, notes and dates. You save a posting with a browser extension, move a card from "saved" to "applied", and set a reminder. The work of filling out the form is still yours.

An auto-apply app finds jobs, prepares the resume and submits. Less of your time goes into forms. But you give up some hand control, and you need to trust the rules you set.

Autofill sits between the two. It fills the fields in one click. You still press submit.

What to look for

Be careful with the last one. A page can say "apply with one click" and mean autofill. Look at what happens after the click.

Write-ups

Teal. Teal is a tracker and resume builder, and it does not apply for you. A Chrome extension bookmarks jobs into the tracker and saves salary and keywords. The AI tailors a resume to a job description. Teal+ is $13 weekly, $29 monthly or $79 a quarter. The free plan needs no card. Supported boards and interview prep detail are not stated in what we could see. It suits someone who applies by hand and wants a free board with resume help.

Huntr. Huntr is a tracker with a contacts list, a map view and autofill on common fields. The free plan has unlimited base resumes, 2 job-tailored resumes, 2 application packets and tracking for up to 100 jobs. Pro is $40 a month, $30 a month billed $90 every 3 months, or $26.66 a month billed $160 every 6 months. There is no stated auto-submit, and the only interview feature is a tracker, with no practice questions. It suits someone who likes control of each application.

Simplify. Copilot autofills forms in one click, said to work on 100,000+ career sites, and is described as free. It also has a job tracker. Simplify+ adds per-job tailored resumes, cover letters and outreach emails at $19.99 for 1 week, $39.99 for 1 month or $89.99 for 3 months. Auto-submit is not stated, so assume you finish it. It suits someone who wants free autofill and a short paid stretch.

JobCopilot and LoopCV. These two are auto-apply apps, so they belong in the other column. JobCopilot applies for you, from $0.93 a day on Premium and $1.05 a day on Elite, and lists an AI mock interviewer. LoopCV has a free plan with no time limit and paid plans from 9.99 EUR a month, with Auto-Apply that you can turn off. Both state a wider job reach than Salvo has today, though neither names its supported ATS list. See the alternatives index for more.

Salvo. Salvo finds jobs that fit rules you write, rewrites your resume for each job, applies for you and preps you for each interview. It saves a submission receipt for each application. It submits itself on Greenhouse, Workable and Ashby today, with more sites being added, so a job on another system will not be sent for you. Free to start with no card. Your first 2 interview requests are free. After that a Turbo plan keeps replies unlocked, at $14 weekly, $39 monthly, $89 every 3 months or $299 yearly, with 7 days free to try. Each user gets their own Salvo applicant email, and Salvo says it does not sell your data, per its security page. See how Salvo applies and get started.

The trade

A tracker costs you time on every application, and gives you full say over each one. An auto-apply app saves that time, and you must trust the rules and resumes it uses. Salvo does not replace a tracker for contacts and notes. It does replace the form work on the three systems it supports.

Who each one suits

Using a tracker for notes and Salvo for sending is a fair mix.
